“Design Our Logo” contest

I recently founded www.voteforart.com, a new startup backed by the large apparel company David Peyser Sportswear(owner of brands such as Weatherproof and MV Sport). Vote For Art will be similar to Threadless but with a collegiate focus. We have partnered with six major universities for our main launch in November, for which we will be hosting graphic design contests. The winners’ artwork will be printed on t-shirts and sold at the University bookstore.

We are currently hosting the “Design Our Logo” contest which will be the very first of its kind.  Members of the Vote For Art community will be able to design and vote for the actual logo to be displayed on our site and on all of the tees sold online and in book stores around the country.  Not only will Vote For Art members create all the products sold in our stores, but they’ll also create the brand of the entire community!

I believe Vote For Art can be a very useful tool for your art students. Contests on our website are completely free to enter. If an artist design is chosen (based on votes from public), the artist will earn a cash reward and a percentage of t-shirt sales. They will also be able to earn national exposure for their work. It is a win-win for artists.

Downtown Bentonville Web Internship

Needed: Someone interested in doing a fun, graphically rich Web site with Downtown Bentonville, Inc. to replace the current site. If the arrangement is a formal internship, DBI is willing to pay for the class as compensation, so you’ll get 3 free credits and great experience with design, XHTML and CSS, possibly Flash, among other things. If you have questions as to whether you’re qualified talk to Tom Hapgood, otherwise contact Executive Director Daniel Hintz (479-254-0254) who’d love to explain more about the opportunity. Much of the work can probably be done off-site.

** Digital Journalists Wanted **

Get involved with Ozarks Unbound. I’m Christopher Spencer and I publish an online magazine called Ozarks Unbound (ozarksunbound.com). I’m looking for journalism students who want to hone their skills online. I have ten years experience as a print reporter, both at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and The Morning News of Northwest Arkansas. Now, I’m trying something new. No pay to start, but you can build your skills and clips in photography, graphic design, writing, editing or even videography. Experience in WordPress a plus, but it’s easy to teach. Contact me at 479.530.4943 or cspencer@ozarksunbound.com if you’ve got an interesting column concept or story idea to pitch.
