Rapin’ for the Cure
October 5, 2009 on 11:59 am | In Announcement, Typography | No CommentsMy Typography class loved the annual appearance of the “Ropin’/Rapin’ for the Cure” shirt. Probably hundreds of these were printed for the event. And as we discussed in class, you really want to be sure of your typeface choices, have others look closely at your event-logo design, and to not promote anything illegal, however good the cause. (Thanks to Brian Wolf for supplying the shirt)

August 22, 2007 on 8:19 am | In Musing, Typography | No CommentsWe’ve been discussing this in classes, and while typeface and font are used synonymously these days, there is or was a difference between typefaces and fonts. Here’s a great explanation on wikipedia.

Had a great visit today with designer Bruce Licher, who is a letterpress expert and great designer, not to mention extremely accomplished musician. He has a great little studio space here in Sedona, AZ. My Typography class will be able to see the cool samples he gave me of his work, including his 4″ x 6″ letterpress-ed business card.

New Orleans “Voluntourism” of our design student
March 28, 2007 on 9:45 am | In Announcement, Typography | No CommentsDesign/Journalism senior Bertha Gutierrez volunteered in New Orleans over Spring Break, as part of the university’s Alternative Spring Break, working with Katrina Corps. She snapped many pix, and ever the good design student, noticed lots of good distressed type among the distressed conditions. See more of her many pix from the “Big Easy.”
Rock House Cave pictograph
March 22, 2007 on 10:46 pm | In Musing, Typography | No CommentsThe Typography students should know a pictograph when they see it. This one, barely visible, is found in the Rock House Cave in the Petit Jean State Park in central Arkansas. I found three, but most are gone it seems. This form of communication was made using mineral pigments mixed with animal fat or eggs.
Chocolate Lab inside?
March 15, 2007 on 9:16 am | In Musing, Typography | No CommentsA truck at the circus the other afternoon. I love countrified, clever type, especially the patriotic red and white on blue. I actually heard people discussing whether there was a laboratory inside the truck for making chocolate. No, really.
