Joanne Jones was born in Tampa, Florida, but has been an Arkansas resident since early childhood. She holds a B.F.A. and M.F.A. from the University of Arkansas, and has been an Instructor with the Department of Art since January of 1994. Classes taught include photography, drawing, design, painting, art criticism and professional practices.
Jones' personal work includes photography, collage, digital media, and painting. Her work has been included in numerous exhibitions, and recently won First Place in "Originals! Arkansas Women Artists, 2004–2005," sponsored by the Arkansas Committee of The National Museum of Women in the Arts. For 2005, her work was included in the 48th Annual Delta Exhibition at the Arkansas Arts Center; Photospivath 2005 in Joplin, Missouri; and the Tri County Arts Council 23rd Annual National Small Works Exhibition in Cobleskill, NY. Jones' currently has work in the 2006 Small Works on Paper exhibition which is touring the state.
Jones' work is included in the collection of the Arts and Science Center of Southeast Arkansas in Pine Bluff, the University of Arkansas Fine Arts Gallery, and the Butler Institute for Arkansas Studies.
