Stephanie Pierce received her MFA from The University of Washington, Seattle, in 2006, and earned her BFA from The Art Institute of Boston in 1996. She attended the Yale Norfolk Summer School of Art in 1995 and apprenticed with Jim Stroud, master printer and publisher, at Center Street Studio in Boston, MA. Stephanie’s work responds to the question of what painting is, dealing with selectivity of perception, perception vs. invention, and the transience of time. Her work is concerned with the phenomena of presence found in paint and use of fragmentation as a way to undo the veil of perception and recreate it. Her work has been shown in galleries and museums throughout the US including The Henry Art Gallery in Seattle, The Asheville Art Museum in Asheville, NC, and is presently affiliated with Wynn Bone Gallery in Annapolis, MD. She has work included in the collections of Joan and Roger Sonnabend, Museum of Fine Arts Boston, and the Boston Public Library. Prior to joining University of Arkansas faculty in the spring of 2006, Stephanie taught at The University of Washington in Seattle.
