An exhibition of oil paintings by MFA candidate Robert Andes will open the fall season in the Fine Arts Center Gallery on Wednesday, August 30 and continue through September 13, 2006. A reception for the artist will be held on Friday, September 8 from 5 – 8 pm.

As the title implies, Andes’ exhibition focuses on portraiture. “For as long as I have been painting, I have found myself fascinated with depicting the human face and figure. At once the representation of the human form speaks directly to us of our own mortality and of the immortality of the painted image. Faces, particularly, seem to embody this dichotomy.”

Robert Andes was born and raised in rural New Hampshire. He received a BFA degree from Oklahoma State University in 2003. He plans to graduate from the Master of Fine Arts program at the University of Arkansas in December 2006, with an emphasis in painting and minor in printmaking.

Andes’ work has also been exhibited at the Spiva Arts Gallery in Joplin, MO; Columbia College in Columbia, MO; and was selected for an international online exhibition, juried by Energy Gallery of Toronto, Canada(www.energygallery.com). His work may also be seen online at www.deathpenaltyartshow.org; www.artamiss.org; and www.robandes.com.
