Large scale oil canvases and acrylic works on paper by Kristin Quinn will be featured in the UA Fine Arts Gallery January 10 – February 7, 2007.
Quinn will present an illustrated lecture about her work on Thursday, January 25 at 7:30 pm in Room 213 of the Fine Arts Center. A reception will follow in the gallery.
She describes her work as “gradually grow(ing) in layers. In the strata of the paint, the shape of a microscopic protein hovers beneath a planet’s elliptical orbit and decorative ironwork cancels out dense foliage. It is these strange alliances between the common and uncommon, natural and synthetic, that I find compelling to paint.” Several paintings in this exhibition have titles related to New Orleans and Quinn admits to ‘having Katrina in mind’ when they were created.
Kristin Quinn is Professor of Art at St. Ambrose University in Davenport, IA. She has a BFA in Painting from the Tyler School of Art, Temple University, Philadelphia, and an MFA in Painting from Indiana University, Bloomington.
