That title pretty much sums up the content of Aaron Lovell’s oversized woodcut prints, currently featured in his Master of Fine Arts Thesis exhibition in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. A reception will be held on Saturday, April 14 at 2:00 pm and the show continues through Friday, April 20. Lovell’s graphic work includes scenes from his trailer park childhood, including a few interesting characters, some sensitive self-portraits, and even a cockfight! The nature of ‘high art’ vs. ‘low life’ is another theme that runs through this body of work — which demonstrates Lovell’s remarkable printmaking skill, as well as his ironic sense of humor.

In advance of his visiting artist gig at the University of Arkansas, Dennis (”Bones”) Carpenter has sent a group of his recent inkjet prints for exhibit in the hallway cases in the UA Fine Arts Center. These detailed digital collages describe the artist’s personal history through the metaphor of travel documentary.

Carpenter will present a lecture on Thursday, April 12 at 7:30 pm in Room 213 of the Fine Arts Center. When not traveling around the world, “Bones” teaches at the University of Kentucky.
