The University of Arkansas Fine Arts Center Gallery is proud to present the Art Directors Club 85th Annual Awards exhibition from November 26 through December 16, 2007. This traveling exhibition features the best work of the year 2006 in advertising, graphic design, publication design, packaging, photography and illustration. Examples range from single magazine cover illustrations to subway poster-sized advertisements. Visual designers from around the globe compete for the ADC’s “gold cube” awards, so this exhibition provides viewers with an international perspective on marketing and advertising through well-designed graphic materials.
Founded in New York in 1920 as the first creative collective of its kind, the Art Directors Club, Inc. (www.adcglobal.org) is a 501[c]3 not-for-profit organization with an international membership in advertising, design and related visual communications disciplines. The ADC’s mission is to promote the highest standards of excellence and integrity in visual communications and to encourage students and young professionals entering the field.

Stephanie ‘Poppi’ Price has created a thought-provoking installation in the Fine Arts Center Gallery for her Master of Arts Thesis Exhibition. “the witness” features a series of life-sized digital photographs of Price. Two self portraits confront the viewer with their intense expressions of depression and rage. A 42′ corridor lined with photographs which document the natural demise of an original self portrait photograph which was exposed to the elements for thirty days, leads to the back of the gallery where a group of images is buried, simulating the original decomposition process. “Nature serves as a metaphor for things you have no control over,” according to Price, “and making the photographs of myself expressing anger or sadness was a way to make something intangible — my emotions — become real.”
“the witness” will continue through Friday, November 16, with a reception for the artist planned for Saturday, November 10 from 6:30 – 9:00 pm in the gallery.

Santa Fe-based artist Edie Tsong will be a guest on the University of Arkansas campus on Monday, November 5. Tsong will create a performance piece in the UA Fine Arts Center from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm and will present an informal talk at 5:00 pm in Fine Arts Room 213.
Tsong’s performance piece, “Still Life (The Audience As Reflected By My Face),” invites people to interact with the artist in creating a work of art, which will be presented in the first floor hallway of the Fine Arts Center. Her talk will reference her experiences with artists residencies and other ‘non traditional’ means of supporting oneself as a working artist. The general public is invited to both events.
